Exciting destinations

So much to discover that the days become too short

There is a lot going on at the Poenenhof, but if you want to take a trip, there are some very interesting destinations nearby:

Raft or paddle tour

Paddling on the Niers –
especially in summer a
Riesens
for big and small river pirates.

Nearby (in Weeze) are the landing stages. You can book raft trips as well as rubber dinghy and canoe tours. You are welcome to get the contact details of the respective providers from us. Afterwards you plan your tour according to your wishes with the organizer on your own.

Irrland

This palm-fringed, green oasis exudes pure vacation flair and is located 20 kilometers from Poenenhof in Kevelear-Twisteden. The 300,000-square-meter site promises “active play, learning and romping, a high recreational value combined with unique family-friendliness – and all that extremely easy on the wallet.”

For groups we are happy to organize the bus trip to the Irrland.

Wonderland Kalkar

At Kernie’s Family Park, you can enjoy a full day of unlimited fun on more than 40 attractions – chips, soft serve ice cream and drinks included! Located only twelve kilometers from Poenenhof, the family park is ideally suited for children from three to twelve years. But also older children have fun on the huge climbing wall or on the go-kart track.

Kalkar

Not even ten kilometers from the Poenenhof lies the charming Kalkar. More than any other town on the Lower Rhine, Kalkar represents architecture, art and urban planning of the Middle Ages as a unity. The town of Kalkar cordially invites you to experience this unique atmosphere between numerous monuments and important churches, the town windmill and museums, and at the same time to experience today’s Kalkar as a lively town with nice cafés and restaurants.

Leisure center Xanten

This tip takes you to the Roman city of Xanten, or more precisely to the North and South Lakes in the Xanten Leisure Center. Just 15 kilometers from Poenenhof, the recreation center offers you a lot of fun in and on the water, especially in summer:

  • Water sports such as surfing, a sailing school, water skiing, boat rentals, boat moorings and stand up paddling.
  • a lido with playground equipment for small children, aqua park and diving tower
  • Adventuregolf
  • numerous gastronomic offers

Adventure Park Xanten

Located directly at the Xantener Südsee you will find the high ropes course. On three levels you have the opportunity to test your courage and skill. Here it is possible with a little spirit of adventure to experience your own limits and master new challenges. In addition, you will find one of the largest children’s high ropes courses for children from about 4 years. This guarantees fun for the whole family!

Xanten Archaeological Park (APX)

A 20-minute drive from Poenenhof is the site of the Roman city of Colonia Ulpia Trainana. Germany’s largest archaeological open-air museum invites you to an exciting excursion into history: In the park you can visit the ancient world on a scale of 1:1! Admire, for example, the colossal amphitheater, the city walls or the harbor temple, Roman craft houses and a Roman bath. In the new LVR-RömerMuseum, especially the young guests get their money’s worth: At more than 30 hands-on stations you can actively discover the ancient world. The icing on the cake: Admission is free for all guests under 18.

Zoo Weeze

The Weeze Zoo with its forest nature trail, petting zoo and adjacent nature adventure trail is only a ten-minute drive away. Open all year round and accessible free of charge, the zoo in the shade of the trees by the Hertefeld castle ruins is a popular destination for walks and hikes. Here you have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the animals – in the petting zoo, with the pygmy goats or at many other enclosures. With the zoo’s own animal food you can even feed (almost) all the animals. Bringing dogs is expressly permitted.

Leisure pool GochNess

No matter if it’s summery temperatures outside or lousy weather: About 18 kilometers away from the Poenenhof the “tremendous bathing fun & fabulous sauna pleasure GochNess” is waiting for you. The leisure pool offers:

  • Indoor and outdoor waterscapes with 65-meter tube slide (with speed measuring system and great light effects), counter-current channel, climbing wall and diving tower
  • Copa Gochana natural outdoor pool
  • Sauna area and wellness
  • numerous gastronomic offers

Pauenhof

For the tractor fans among the Poenenhof guests, we recommend this excursion destination twelve kilometers away: Germany’s largest tractor and agricultural technology museum. More than 360 tractors will be on display here in a total of ten halls with an exhibition area of around 5,000 square meters. Tractors from home and abroad, including types of well-known manufacturers as well as types of (almost) unknown companies that have built only a few tractors. In addition, you can see all the machines that once facilitated work in the fields and on the farm – from small machines to huge combine harvesters.

Golf course Mühlenhof

You know what a handicap is and don’t think a birdie is a tropical bird? Then you will certainly have fun at the Mühlenhof Golf & Country Club e.V., located twelve kilometers from the Poenenhof. An idyllic golf course is located here around the historic Düffelsmühle. The 18-hole course is characterized by a varied mix of easy and difficult holes. It is interesting to play for every handicap class and always offers a new challenge. Golf store, golf school and a restaurant are of course included.
